Anambra Security : ANSPPB demolishes Criminal hideouts in Onitsha.

The Anambra State Government has commenced the demolition of structures used by criminals as hide outs to perpetrate crimes around Aba park, Onitsha-Owerri road, Upper-Iweka, Onitsha.
The operation was conducted today by the officials of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board and supervised by its Chairman and Managing Director, Barr. Chukwunweike Francis Maduekwe
Addressing journalists during the exercise, Barr. Maduekwe said; ” following reports of the activities of armed robbers, petty thieves who are masters in the act of handbag snatching and hard drug peddlers that operate around here at night. We are here to demolish all their hideouts.”.
” What we’ve done now is to pull down the retaining wall that served as cover for criminals here. And it is according to the directives of the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano. All these shanties around here which served as hideout for the hoodlums will be removed and we shall beautify this place and build a Police post”.
” The centrepiece of Gov. Obiano’s administration is security. So we can not allow criminals to soil the peace and tranquillity being enjoyed here in Anambra”.
Confirming the reports, a petty trader in the area, Mrs Nwanneka Okoye was full of joy as she narrated their everyday experience in the hands of the thieves.
She said, “I thank Gov. Willie Obiano for coming to our succour. Our condition has become almost in despair as the hoodlums were ready to shoot or stab their victims including we the traders”.
On his part, Mr. Kenneth Obi, a manager of one of the parks in the area told the journalists that the spot had become a notorious den of thieves and that snatching of handbags, phones and selling of hard drugs as become the order of the day in the area.
In addition, he particularly appreciated the governor for tackling the security of Anambra state and Upper-Iweka in particular head-on.
