Governor Obiano Inuagurates ASUBEB, PPSSC Boards; Tasks them on Quality Education.

The Boards for the Anambra State Universal Basic Education (ASUBEB) and Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC) have been inaugurated.
The Board members were sworn-in into office Tuesday at the Executive Chambers of the Anambra State Government House, Awka.
Inaugurating the Boards, Chief Willie Obiano observed that the Leadership and Members of ASUBEB and PPSSC who had served out their tenures achieved enviable results for themselves and the state and that he was proud of them.
He further informed the audience that Mrs. Grace Adichie is the mother of our own literary Ambassador, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and that other Board members were carefully selected to ensure that the great works we are doing in the education sector are sustained.
Governor Obiano charged them to ensure that the torch extended them by their predecessors did not extinguish under their watch.
Said he: ‘The Board you succeeded did excellently well, under them our students won laurels; locally and Internationally and I expect nothing less from you all’
‘ In the Presidential Schools Debate, Anambra has consistently won the first position for four consecutive years now’
‘ You all must work with the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Science Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha and ensure that the Federal Government pays her counterpart of the education fund. We have paid two years upfront of the education counterpart funds’
‘ We are paying Teachers as and when due including gratuities and pensions of retired ones. My administration increased by one-quarter the salaries of Teachers who work in hard-to-reach areas of the state. And we are doing more’ said the governor.
Responding, Mr. Ugbaja Patrick who spoke on behalf of the Board of ASUBEB promised to take the Basic Education of the state to the next level while Mrs Veronica Okaro thanked the Governor for all his investments in the education sector and promised that the PPSSC will continue to advance the course of education of our children.
Prof. Kate Omenugha, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Science Education in her remarks appluaded Governor Willie Obiano for his visionary leadership and sound Educational Policies that have seen the state as number one in several aspects.
Speaking further, she maintained that under Chief Willie Obiano’s administration, students from Anambra State hosted the the Presidential Schools Debate and came first after beating Benue State on Four to one aggregate. Our Girls (Regina Pacis Secondary School Onitsha) represented Nigeria and Africa at the World Technovation Challenge held in San Francisco, USA last year and won Gold and several others.

Governor Obiano also used the opportunity to receive the Anambra Musical Troupe that came first at the New Year Celebration organized by the Ambassador of China to Nigeria and held in Abuja. The troupe was led by the Honourable Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism, Barr. Sally Mbanefo.
Mrs. Mbanefo informed the governor that the state had been awarded scholarships by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria to study Confucius and Calisthenics and also visas to travel to the Republic of China mid 2019.
Basic and post primary education are said to constitute the foundational levels of learning for every child. Through these processes, the child goes through the elementary and secondary aspects of learning that prepares him/her for higher engagements in the tertiary Institutions.
Other dignitaries who were at the Council Chambers during the ceremony included; His Excellency, Dr. Nkem Okeke (Deputy Governor of Anambra State), Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu (Secretary to the State Government), Barr. Harry Udu (Head of Service), Mr. James Eze (Chief Press Secretary), Commissioners, Heads of Agencies of Government and other invited guests.
