Nengo River Bridge to be Commissioned in December – Obiano.
By Obika Chidiebele.
Nengo river bridge Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area will be ready for commissioning in December, 2018, said Governor Willie Obiano when he inspected the launch of beams on the bridge, yesterday.
The river bridge measuring about 36 meters; 3 columns of 12 meters each, was awarded to TAMAD Construction Company Ltd and links Nteje Community with Umunya, both in Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra state.
The aggressive development of inter community roads to ease pressure on traffic comes against reports of spike in traffic jams witnessed in major junctions across the state.
Of great concern is the Nteje-Umunya portion of the failed Enugu-Onitsha expressway which forced commutters to detour using the newly built Nteje-Umunya bypass Road built by Gov. Willie Obiano.
Like the proverbial gate of heaven, vehicle drivers would queue up and wait five to ten minutes for a pass on the shaky old colonial steel bridge across the Nengo River and part with a token to the village youths.
Gov. Obiano during his speech said the bridge when completed will ease traffic currently witnessed at the old Onitsha-Enugu Road. He pointed out that the bridge is very important to the state as farmers would easily convey their farm produce to city markets which enhances the states’ burgeoning economy.
‘TAMAD is a well known bridge construction expert and i know they will deliver a world class project here. This bridge will ease suffering of our people’, Gov. Obiano said.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Marcel Ifejiofor, while speaking appreciated Governor Obiano for his strong Political WILL in delivering people oriented projects all over the state. He opinied that the bridge bears direct impact on the lives of the people and promised to monitor and make sure the contractor delivers a good job and on schedule.
Mr. Nwankwo Chike, a commercial Bus driver who plies the route daily thanked Gov. Willie Obiano for his bold efforts in completing the River Bridge Project. He appealed to ndi Anambra to continue supporting the Governor saying that Obiano means well for the state.
Other persons that joined the Governor on the inspection tour included; Hon. Uchenna Okafor (Commissioner for Transport), Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe (DG, Project Monitoring and Management Office) and Chief Bernet Chinweze(Caretaker Committee Chairman, Nteje Development Union).
